Aethos

The Aethos Standard

Seven commitments.
One written standard.

A clear account of how we protect your home, make decisions and bring decorating work to a deliberate handover.

It applies alongside the agreed scope and specification for your individual project.

What you can expect

These commitments describe our working practice. Your written quotation remains the specific record of what is included in your project.

  1. 01

    Protect before preparation

The room is made ready before surface work begins.

    Our practice

We agree access, move or cover what needs protection, and safeguard floors, furniture and adjoining areas for the work being carried out.

    Why it matters

This reduces avoidable marks, dust migration and disruption elsewhere in your home.

  2. 02

    Diagnose the surface

We look at what the surface needs, not only how it appears.

    Our practice

Condition, previous coatings, movement, moisture warning signs and repair needs are considered before a paint system is confirmed. Where a matter needs specialist advice, we say so.

    Why it matters

This avoids hiding a problem beneath a finish that is unlikely to perform as intended.

  3. 03

    Specify in writing

The important decisions are recorded before work starts.

    Our practice

Your quotation sets out surfaces, preparation and repairs within scope, products, coats, protection, sequence, exclusions and costs. Changes are discussed and recorded rather than assumed.

    Why it matters

This gives both parties a shared reference and keeps the project from drifting into unclear expectations.

  4. 04

    Prepare with discipline

Preparation is treated as part of the finish, not a preliminary inconvenience.

    Our practice

Surfaces are cleaned, repaired, filled, sanded and primed as required by their condition and the written specification. Each stage is given the attention it needs before coating.

    Why it matters

This limits the defects that hurried preparation can leave visible through otherwise good paintwork.

  5. 05

    Reset and communicate

An occupied home remains a home throughout the project.

    Our practice

I carry out the work myself, agree the sequence with you, keep you informed and reset working areas at the end of the day wherever the project allows. If another specialist is ever needed, I will discuss it with you and get your agreement first.

    Why it matters

This reduces uncertainty, unnecessary disruption and surprises about who is attending or what happens next.

  6. 06

    Inspect deliberately

Completion is checked rather than simply announced.

    Our practice

We review the agreed work, address finishing points within scope and reinstate the space carefully before handover.

    Why it matters

This creates a clear moment to confirm that the written specification has been completed.

  7. 07

    Leave a care record

Useful information stays with the home after we leave.

    Our practice

We record the relevant colour and product details for future care and explain any practical aftercare that applies to the completed surfaces.

    Why it matters

This gives you or another decorator the information needed for maintenance and local paint repairs.
