How to use the visualiser

A starting schedule,
not a paint promise.

  1. 01 · Architecture

    Choose the room and surface.

Treat walls, ceilings and joinery separately. Each carries colour and reflection differently.

  2. 02 · Perception

    Change the light.

Compare clear daylight, overcast light and warm evening light before judging undertones.

  3. 03 · Evidence

    Sample in the real room.

Confirm colour, product and finish on the actual substrate before work begins.

Colour follows light

Morning, overcast and evening are three different rooms.

North facing light can emphasise grey or blue undertones. Warm lamps strengthen ochres, reds and cream notes. Large windows, timber floors, stone fireplaces and neighbouring colours all affect the eye. Review movable sample boards at different times rather than choosing from one screen image.

Finish follows use

The same colour changes when sheen changes.

Low sheen softens reflected light and can hide minor surface variation. Eggshell and satin reveal more architecture and usually suit prepared joinery. Gloss makes every edge and defect more visible. Washability, curing, moisture resistance and breathability vary by product. Choose the finish to suit the room and the condition of the surface.

Walls & ceilings

Control glare and maintenance.

Very flat finishes can work well overhead or in rooms with little traffic. Durable matts may be more practical where hands, bags and family life regularly meet the wall.

Doors & trim

Preparation becomes visible.

As sheen rises, sanding, filling, priming and dust control matter more. Older coatings may require adhesion testing or a lead paint assessment before disturbance.

Mineral backgrounds

Compatibility comes first.

Limewash and silicate systems rely on suitable backgrounds. They should not be selected as visual effects alone or treated as simple answers to moisture.

The final check

A screen can begin the conversation. The property decides the system.

We assess the existing coating, surface condition, room use and exposure before preparing a written specification. Explore freely here, then bring the scheme, physical samples and your questions to Aethos.
