Roof painting · St Andrews & Fife
Suitability first. Coating second.
A roof is not simply another exterior wall. I only consider painting where the roof material, existing condition, manufacturer guidance and safe access support an appropriate coating system.
Discuss roof painting
First, understand the surface.
The first step is identifying the material and why a coating is being considered. Leaks, failed flashings, damaged coverings and uncertain construction need assessment by a roofing specialist. Access and fall protection must be resolved before any work is agreed.
Then, specify the finish.
Any proposed system must be intended for the specific roof surface and exposure. Preparation, drying intervals and access requirements are recorded in the scope. There is no universal roof paint suitable for every covering.
Leave it ready to look after.
Roof inspection should be undertaken safely by someone with appropriate access. Keep the coating specification and any manufacturer maintenance requirements with the property records. Do not climb onto a roof to take enquiry photographs.
What needs separate attention
This is not a leak repair or reroofing service. Suspected asbestos, fragile coverings and unsuitable materials are not disturbed. Painting is not offered as a substitute for necessary roofing repairs.
Read the Aethos StandardBefore you enquire
A few practical questions.
The right advice depends on the surface in front of us. These are useful starting points.
Will painting stop a leaking roof?
Painting should not be relied on to repair a leak. The cause needs a roofing specialist and appropriate repairs before a decorative coating is considered.
Can every roof be painted?
No. Material, condition, warranties, exposure and access all affect suitability. Some roofs should not receive a decorative coating at all.
What should I send with an enquiry?
Share the material if known, the reason for repainting and photographs taken safely from ground level. Do not use a ladder or climb onto the roof for photographs.
