Preparation and repairs

Exterior preparation starts with checking the existing coating and the condition of the timber or metal beneath it. Loose paint, moisture and open joints need attention before a new coating is applied. Cleaning, sanding, repairs and any priming must suit the surface and the product being used. Bare timber and metal need different treatment, and each coat needs the drying conditions stated by its manufacturer.

Paint and material choices

The interior colours included Farrow & Ball India Yellow, Bancha and Manor House Gray, with Zinsser Anthracite on the woodwork. The hut palette includes Farrow & Ball Kittiwake, Lick Blue 06, and Zinsser Light Grey and Anthracite Grey. These colours are shown separately below for the house and hut. Product choice depends on the surface, existing coating and exposure, not colour alone.

Result and progress

The finished scheme uses yellow, green and grey inside the main house, with dark internal woodwork. Outside, the painted details sit alongside the original stonework. Morag has muted blue and grey cladding with darker trim, steps and decking. The main house and hut are parts of the same project, but each has its own colour scheme. Only exterior photographs are shared here.
