Cabinet painting · St Andrews & Fife
Keep the cabinetry. Rethink the colour.
Sound cabinetry can be worth keeping. I assess the doors, frames and existing finish before recommending a repaint, with particular attention to the edges and handles that receive the most use.
Discuss cabinet painting
First, understand the surface.
Solid timber, MDF, laminate and wrapped doors do not behave in the same way. I check material, adhesion, swollen edges, grease contamination and hardware. A coating trial may be needed where compatibility is uncertain. Peeling wraps or moisture damaged boards may need replacement rather than paint.
Then, specify the finish.
The primer and finish must work together on the existing material. Colour, sheen, application method and the surfaces included are recorded before work. A sample helps establish the expected appearance without promising a factory finish on unsuitable cabinetry.
Leave it ready to look after.
Cupboard fronts can be touch dry before they are ready for normal cleaning. I explain initial handling, curing and suitable cleaning, particularly around handles, sinks and appliances.
What needs separate attention
Repainting does not repair failing carcasses, delaminating doors or a faulty kitchen layout. Worktops, appliances and plumbing are outside this decorating service unless separately arranged.

A few practical questions.
The right advice depends on the surface in front of us. These are useful starting points.
Can laminate cupboards be painted?
Some can, after assessment and appropriate adhesion testing. Loose laminate, swollen board and failing wraps need attention first. I will explain when replacement is the more sensible choice.
Will I be able to use the kitchen?
We agree the working sequence and restrictions before work begins. Access to cupboards and preparation areas will be affected, and spraying requires additional isolation where it is suitable.
Is this the same as kitchen repainting?
Kitchen cabinets are part of this service. It also covers suitable fitted cupboards and storage elsewhere in the home. The quotation sets out the exact components included.
