Drywall repair · St Andrews & Fife
Repair the surface. Then repaint.
Small defects become more noticeable under fresh paint. I assess minor plasterboard damage, carry out agreed local repairs and prepare them for decoration, while identifying problems that need more than filling.
Discuss drywall repair
First, understand the surface.
A dent from everyday use is different from a crack caused by movement or a soft area left by water. I look at the cause, the surrounding board and the extent of the damage before deciding whether a local decorative repair is appropriate.
Then, specify the finish.
A repair needs to be sound, level and sealed appropriately before the decorative coats. Strong side lighting and higher sheen can reveal local differences, so repainting the full wall or ceiling may give a more consistent result than touching in one patch.
Leave it ready to look after.
Keep an eye on any repaired crack. If it reappears, further investigation may be needed rather than repeated filling. Allow the repair and coating their required drying and curing time.
What needs separate attention
Large board replacement, structural movement, extensive plastering and damage to fire rated assemblies require separate assessment. Active damp must be resolved before a decorative repair.

A few practical questions.
The right advice depends on the surface in front of us. These are useful starting points.
Will a repaired crack stay closed?
That depends on its cause. A stable surface defect may be repairable, but continuing movement can reopen a crack. I do not treat filler as a solution to structural movement.
Can you just repaint the repaired patch?
Sometimes, but texture, colour and sheen differences can remain visible. Painting the complete surface often gives a more consistent result, especially in strong natural light.
Do you replace whole walls?
This service focuses on minor local decorative repairs. Extensive board replacement or plastering needs a separate scope and may require another trade before painting.
Often considered together.
