Looking after your paintwork
Exterior woodwork and windows
after we leave.
Outside timber takes the worst of the weather. A little care every year doubles the life of the paint.
Keep this page. It is what we follow on our own homes, and following it keeps your twelve month guarantee in good order.
The first few weeks
- Leave windows open a crack or ease them gently for the first few days so they do not stick.
- Do not lock sash windows for a week.
Cleaning
- Wash with warm soapy water and a soft cloth twice a year. Rinse and dry.
- Clear moss and debris from sill drips and the bottom rail.
Please avoid
- Pressure washers.
- Painting over hairline cracks in the putty. Tell us and we will fix them properly.
Touching up
Seal any crack in paint or putty as soon as you see it. Water getting into a crack is how rot starts.
When to check
Check south and west facing windows and doors each spring. They get the most sun and rain.
Something not right
Tell us and
we will come back.
If anything cracks, flakes or lifts within twelve months, send a photo and we will look at it. That is the guarantee.
